Making racist remarks, be it in social situations or on social media is never ok, no matter what your assumptions are, and, calling a person by using derogatory terms despite not having a malice intent is definitely not cool.

This Singaporean mother-son duo certainly learnt that the hard way as the police are currently investigating the 19-year-old and 53-year-old for their suspected involvement in uttering racial slurs and vulgarities on social media.

To show just how bad things were, here is a video of this power duo in action.

Though most of the conversation is inaudible when it came to the part of explaining why the mother condones her son to use the N-word and racial slurs, here is what she had to say.

“It is because – and I repeat – it is a figure of speech.”

“It is a figure of speech like ‘alaa bxxxlah’, something like that.”

Answering to the comments on the live chat, they also mentioned that people of colour do not take offence when people use the N-word.

Oh, really?

Well, tell that to the police ok?

In Singapore, one can be imprisoned for a term of up to three years, receive a fine, or both for uttering words with deliberate intent to wound the racial or religious feelings of any person.

As reported in mothership.sg, the police said, “The police treat acts that can threaten racial or religious harmony in Singapore very seriously.”

“Any person who makes remarks that can cause ill-will and hostility between the different races and religions will be dealt with swiftly and firmly.”

Let’s hope that people like this, will be made an example of how uttering racial slurs in private or in public is not ok!
