While many of us may be in the comfort of our own homes with a full pantry and can order meals in as and when we wish during the MCO period, it is worth noting that not all of us are able to afford meals. This is especially true of those who may have had their main source of income disrupted as a result of the ‘stay at home’ notice.

Well, despite the fact that the government has tried to take initiative to help those who may not necessarily be able to afford food during this time, Malaysiakini reports that over 750 food packs meant for the poor have apparently been left in a sports complex for two weeks, completely undistributed. The claim comes from DAP chairperson Tan Kok Wai, who spoke to the English daily.

“The sports complex was chosen as the place to keep 2,000 food packs. A thousand for Cheras and 1,000 for Bandar Tun Razak.
“Bandar Tun Razak’s share of the food packs were distributed much earlier, but then the Cheras one, because I’m not a member of the ruling coalition, I was denied my share,” he said.
Out of the 1,000 packs of food earmarked for the poor in Cheras, only 250 were taken out for distribution to unknown recipients. This is in light of the fact that Mr Tan’s office has repeatedly raised queries on the distribution of the food items.
He has also expressed concern over the condition of the food, which was being housed in a sports complex. As of yesterday (20th April 2020) morning, checks on the food stock have revealed that the food remains in good condition.
