With parliamentary sessions currently underway, there have been a lot of happenings in relation to our members of parliament.

In another case, the Dewan Rakyat were left in shock after doctors were ordered to examine Gerik MP Fathul Huzir Ayob after he suffered some speech difficulties during his speech in Parliament.

The MP had started his speech in a normal manner but appeared to becoming physically uncomfortable about 5 minutes into it.

Fathul was touching on several matters on rural development, inflation and border issues affecting roads in his constituency of Gerik when he started becoming distressed.

“In Gerik, which is a place in Hulu Perak, rich in natural products such as timber, tin ore, gold and the latest (mining) lanthanide… if you think about it logically, there should not be poor Gerik people.”

“But the reality is different… our lives are still difficult , village roads are not paved… when asked, there is no provision,” he said.

Apart from being unable to get the words out of his mouth, he was also seen fidgeting with his necktie and loosening it.

Medical assistance

Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor then intervened asking him whether he was able to continue to which he then took a short breather by sitting down and drinking some water before several MPs.

Fathul then apologised and said that he was being too emotional and proceeded to deliver his speech while untying his necktie.

He continued on with his speech but began covering his mouth with his right hand while slurring some of his words.

“Speaker, I think we should give him space,” said Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin to which Ramli then told Fathul that he can see the doctor at the Parliament clinic if he was unwell.

Once outside of the House, Fathul was seen being pushed in a wheelchair heading towards the Parliament clinic and was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Signs of something more serious

The video of the incident went viral as netizens expressed concern over Fathul’s condition. Netizens said that it might’ve been anxiety or signs of an incoming stroke.

However, Arau MP Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim, when met in front of the Parliament clinic after he visited Fathul, said that he was in good condition and just needed rest.

“Fathul is healthy, (he is) young. Fighters are like that, enthusiastic when debating.”

On the other hand, an aide of Fathul Huzir told Berita Harian that the MP’s condition is stable and not because of any illness, rather due to him being too emotional about the matter.

Watch a video of the incident below:

We hope that there was nothing serious behind the sudden speech difficulty and that the MP recovers from the incident.
