If you feel like the weather has been rather unpredictable lately, you’re not the only one. Previously, it was reported that the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MMD) had said that the Northeast monsoon would last until March 2018.
However, according to Oriental Daily, they reported that in just two weeks time, we would be entering the dry and hot season, which is expected to last until mid March 2018. The director-general of MMD, Alui Bahari said that from January 2018 onwards, Malaysians can expect the weather to be rather hot and dry as a result of the monsoon. Guess the rainy days are ending!
He added that when the weather turns dry and hot, the northern states of Malaysia including Perlis, Penang and Kedah will be experiencing the brunt of it, especially in February. Since Chinese New Year will be taking place in February, the past two years have shown that although the weather is hot in Kuala Lumpur, there were also sudden showers happening and it is predicted that it will be the same this year.
Bahari said that the weather condition in most parts of Malaysia has gone back to normal although some areas might be experiencing rainstorms, especially in East Malaysia. In fact, MMD had released a weather alert on their Facebook page and said that East Malaysia would be having heavy rain and strong winds until Wednesday, December 20.
Nevertheless, news of approaching dry weather was met with skepticism from many netizens, who said that MMD was not accurate. Some of them even said that if MMD said it would rain, then we should be prepared for sunny days. A few said, “I think it has already started, as the weather is rather hot now and not next year as reported!”
Whatever the weather is, most importantly it does not cause any disasters to the rakyat!
