A Malaysian man is now sharing what may very well be the most ridiculous situation he has ever been in, as he allegedly had to write a formal letter permitting himself to reprint his own vehicle grant from the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

Taking to his Facebook page, Gerald Wong shared that he allegedly had to write the formal letter due to a JPJ officer believing that documentation to reprint vehicle grants can be falsified.

“The stupidest letter I have ever written”

He shared, “The stupidest letter I have ever written so far. I was asked to write a letter to give MYSELF permission to reprint MY vehicle grant at JPJ Bundusan (Sabah). I attached my trading license, which said the company was in my name and my identity card number, but the officer responded, ‘Anyone can make a trading license, I also have a company and a trading license, how do I know this trading license is really yours?‘.”

“Okay, fine. Then I told him again, I filled out the form given by JPJ, in it, it stated that if I give false information, I can be subject to legal action and summons. The form also stated whether I am a representative or the owner of the company. If I am a representative, I need to fill in the details in the form.”

He also pointed out that he is the sole owner of his company, hence he shouldn’t have to write a letter giving ‘a representative’ permission to get his vehicle grant.

“My point is simple, this letter is not solid proof as I can also (create a) fake version of this letter if I wasn’t the real owner. So, look at my trading license then check my name and identity card to check it in your system. It’s easy.”

Gerald also had another issue – conflicting instructions.

He recounted how an officer allegedly told him that they could not use his thumbprint as an authentication method, but the next day, he was informed that it was possible.

He was also apparently not told that he needed a ‘representative’ letter, that he only needed to prepare his trading license, his IC and company stamp.

“If you had told me in advance that I needed a ‘representative’ letter, I wouldn’t have been stupid enough to wait there for 1 and a half hours.”

“Then, when it was my turn, you gave me the first excuse, saying there was no paper to print.”

And then suddenly, you asked me to go to counter 11 and at that time, told me that you wanted a ‘representative’ letter,” he further explained.

He then questioned whether the JPJ officers had purposefully made things difficult for him because it was 4.45pm and “time to go home”.

Gerald ultimately believes that this incident happened because of 2 reasons.

“First, the Director-General of the Malaysian Road Transport Department is too smart or second, the officers at the counters don’t understand the instructions issued by JPJ HQ. That’s why there are many bad views towards civil servants,”

“I really respect civil servants, not all of them are like this, but officers like this are tarnishing the image of the entire civil service,” he added.

WORLD OF BUZZ has reached out to JPJ for comment, but has yet to hear back.
