Do old habits die hard or are people just unwilling to change?
Ever since Covid-19 invaded our country, all of us have been employing physical distancing practices, keeping our hygiene levels up and using face masks.
Ever since the relaxation of the MCO, many people have been going out and this resulted in much more garbage being generated. On 1st August, a Malaysian journalist/ photographer, Norman Goh shared a post revealing the selfishness and irresponsibility of some Malaysians who are also labelled by netizens as ‘Covidiots’.
The post features a series of pictures highlighting the face mask littering problem. In the caption, Norman says,
“These collection of photos I took may look disgusting and dirty to you. Yes, you should feel the same way.”
He elaborates and says that the used masks were strewn at every place imaginable (carparks, pavements, roadsides, etc.). He then stresses the importance of disposing of your masks correctly by saying,
“You may not know if you’re infected and because of your selfish behaviour, you put others at risk, especially the cleaning workers and collectors. They have family too and they too are afraid of getting infected.”
Norman then asks for Malaysians to be sensible by disposing of their masks properly and to practice good hygiene.
“We are still in the midst of fighting the pandemic. Let’s do our part.”
So how do we actually dispose of our masks correctly?
To answer that question, Bernama has shared an infographic (below) that shows the safest way to dispose of face masks. It might be a little troublesome but it is for everyone’s greater good.
Stay safe and stay vigilant out there.
