A kindergarten principal was fined a maximum of RM2,000 by the Sessions Court yesterday (March 27, 2025) in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, for injuring a 6-year-old student by twisting their ear over having written the letter ‘G’ wrongly on March 6, 2024.

According to a report by Kosmo, Judge Nurulizwan Ahmad Zubir imposed the fine after the 61-year-old principal pleaded guilty. She was also ordered to be jailed for 20 days if she failed to pay the fine, to which she made the payment.

“The accused is a single mother with 2 children and an income of RM3,000 per month. The accused apologised to the court, the police and the victim for this act and promised not to commit the same offence,” the principal’s lawyer said as they pleaded for a minimum fine.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Hairuliqram Hairuddin insisted that a guilty plea should not automatically provide a light sentence.

The charge was in accordance with Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, which carries a maximum jail sentence of 1 year, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both if convicted.

On the day of the incident (March 6, 2024), the victim’s mother was informed by her eldest 10-year-old child that the victim, her 6-year-old child, had been beaten by the principal with a marker pen on their right hand.

The principal also pulled and twisted the victim’s ear because they had written the letter ‘G’ incorrectly.

Medical officers then confirmed that there was a soft tissue injury to the victim’s ear due to the principal’s actions.
