Syndicates selling special stickers have been detected as most heavy vehicle owners and drivers are buying them to ‘protect’ themselves when passing through roadblocks.

According to a report by Utusan Malaysia, they found that several lorry drivers have obtained this special sticker from the syndicate to avoid being stopped and fined.

Lorry operators would allegedly purchase the special stickers, which display a specific code or shape, from the syndicate for as little as RM1,000 for each lorry, then stick them on the front or back of their heavy vehicles to make it easier to spot and identify.

The stickers function as an indicator to corrupt enforcement officers at roadblocks, who will then provide relief by allowing them to pass through despite committing various traffic offences including being overloaded.

The pricing of the stickers is allegedly based on the weight of the vehicle and the area they’re in, with some heavy vehicles having 2 or more stickers to ensure they remain free from any legal action.

It is believed that the syndicate is being run by law enforcement officers

An anonymous source told Utusan Malaysia that this syndicate, which is believed to be orchestrated by the enforcement agencies themselves, is making a profit of at least RM10,000 a month from each lorry operator.

“The special stickers come in various shapes, for example, the shape of an eagle, and have specific codes, so when the syndicate sees them, they will know that the lorry (is under their protection), so they will not be stopped. Most of those using the special stickers are trailers and tipper lorries (that transport sand),”

“This has been going on for a long time. Operators have to pay the relevant syndicate every month to ensure that they continue to enjoy the benefits of the special stickers. Whatever the lorry’s offence is, it will be allowed to pass through roadblocks as long as the sticker is there,” they said.

Additionally, lorry operators will apparently buy more than 1 special sticker to enable their drivers to pass through roadblocks in different areas.

For now, it appears that only heavy vehicles such as lorries currently have access to the special sticker service.

Do stay tuned for more updates.
