With the minimum wage still set at RM1,800, many Malaysians are still struggling to survive until the end of every month. When you’re just 3 years away till you reach 30, do you think you can make it with a monthly salary of less than RM3,000?

A Malaysian grad student who recently completed his Master’s finally landed his 1st job. While that is a cause for celebration, the grad student is not so happy with how much he’s earning at his 1st job – RM2,800 as a recruiter. He further explained his feelings about it on a FB post by Ricebowl铁饭网-解决您的求职难题.

“I realised that job hunt is not easy at all. I waited for a long time before I finally got a response from my current employer.”

The man was well aware of how much he would be earning before he took on the role as a recruiter and admitted that he initially wanted to reject this job offer. However, desperate times call for desperate measures.

Times are tough, he had no choice but to hop on the recruiter position because he couldn’t stay unemployed any longer, and planned to work in the time being while trying to see what’s next.

“The longer I work, the longer I overthink about it and feel anxious. I feel like I’ve studied and done my Master’s for nothing if I’m only earning this much, and I am many steps behind others.”

“You’re unlucky because the lucky ones are not here”

Many netizens agreed that he could’ve earned more but advised the man to stay where he is now and gain more experience before he jumped ship, where he can ask for more.

“Have you misunderstood anything? If you don’t have a Master’s, you earn less than RM2,800.”

“Sometimes, we’re talking about luck too. I know some people who have a degree without working experience, but they make up to RM4,000 at the MNCs.”

“You’re just unlucky. The lucky ones have flown abroad and worked there. Sometimes, you can’t just survive locally. My buddy is selling biscuits now to make a living.”

“Law grads make around RM1,800 to RM2,200 too. 2 years later, things are different. You just need to plan ahead, it’s important.”

“Before you gain any experience, it’s best not to ask for too much. Try doing it for a while before job hopping. When you have the experience, you can ask for anything.”

“Don’t give up. Take it easy and gain some experience. With your qualifications, you can make it to Singapore.”

Do you think the man deserves more given his qualifications?
