Many Malaysians have turned to taking on second or even third jobs to make ends meet. And in today’s economy, having side gigs or businesses has become the norm.

Minister of Economy Rafizi Ramli took to his X account to share a video featuring a local woman, Wan Asikin, who runs a vending machine business and seems to be doing really well with her impressive monthly earnings.

Her net income per month can reach RM7,000 to RM8,000

Rafizi revealed that Wan Asikin is one of the top earners in the INSAN IPR vending machine program, generating an impressive income ranging from RM13,000 to RM21,000 each month.

For those who aren’t aware, the government introduced the People’s Income Initiative (IPR) to help individuals create income opportunities and improve the financial situation of the B40 group while addressing poverty.

She started her business on October 2023

According to the post, Rafizi expressed his relief at seeing Wan Asikin achieve such success from just one vending machine situated at the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) branch in Kelantan.

He noted,

“She used to struggle to buy her children’s necessities, but now the burden has lessened, and she’s even managed to renovate her kitchen.”

Wan Asikin sells a variety of canned drinks and food items, including sandwiches and rice dishes. She also mentioned that she started her business in October 2023 and has already earned between RM120,000 and RM130,000.

“Students no longer need to go far to get food. They can just come down from their rooms and buy food in larger quantities that are filling and affordable from this machine,” she said.

“I only earned RM300 to RM500 back then”

In the video, Wan Asikin mentioned her experience selling snacks like curry puffs and mini spring rolls online in the past. She also took orders, but back then, she only managed to earn between RM300 and RM500 a month.

“I have 4 children, and they’re all boys. This vending machine has been a game changer for someone like me in the B40 income group. It’s made a huge difference in my life.”

Towards the end of the video, she took the opportunity to express her gratitude to both the government and UiTM for providing her with the opportunity to succeed and grow her business.
