Fear can often cause you to do some stupid things.

Recently, a man was reported to have left his fiancée who fell off a motorcycle when he stopped suddenly after he was confronted with Road Transport Department (JPJ) restrictions at the Penang Bridge Toll Plaza leading to the island, last night (January 25).

In a report by Berita Harian, the incident which happened at around 9:45pm last night saw the man who was riding a Yamaha LC135 motorcycle leaving his fiancée behind as he fled away from the officers.

According to state JPJ director Adenan Md Isa, it is believed that he fled away because he did not have a valid license or a valid road tax.

“The man may have been shocked and when he braked, his passenger who was a woman fell off and suffered a minor injury to her hand. When we ordered a detour for further inspection, he sped up his motorcycle by making a U-turn and left the woman.”

“The woman admitted that the man was her fiancée and that they were on their way from Seberang Perai to the city center,” he explained.

Adenan said that the woman who was in her 20s was not arrested because she was found to have done nothing wrong but she disappeared shortly after without being given initial treatment.

He said that his party also arrested a 19-year-old teenager for the offense of not having a driver’s license and that he also cried and begged that his Honda Vario motorcycle to not be confiscated.

He added the teenager who works at a licensed moneylender’s premises only bought the motorcycle 2 months ago with a monthly installment payment of RM480 and he was then brought home by his family members.

Earlier, Adenan said that a total of 2,043 motorcycles were checked during the 4 days of the operation, where motorcycle lanes were held in 2 other locations, namely the Juru Arah North Toll Plaza and the Sungai Dua Selatan Toll Plaza, with a total of 301 vehicles taken action involving 473 offences.

“Most of the offenses committed are those that do not have a driver’s license, no road tax, no insurance cover and the offense of modifying motorcycles without following the specifications allowed by JPJ.”

“We found that the offense of not having a driver’s license is very high reaching 100 cases and this shows the awareness of motorcyclists regarding the matter is still at a low level,” he added.
