A woman recently took to social media to share her decision to remain with her company, despite not having received a salary increase in 7 years or a bonus in the past 5 years.
In the post, she explained that she has been working as an accounts assistant at the same company for the past 10 years, during which her salary only increased from RM1,500 to RM2,250.

“I’ve already gotten used to my current company”
Despite all of that, she still chose to stay with the company and hasn’t considered seeking new opportunities, mainly because her office is just five minutes from home.
“I’m too lazy to learn new things or look for a new job. I’ve already gotten used to my current company,” she shared.
She also mentioned that she plans to continue working there until she eventually retires.

However, earlier this year, the company announced that it would be relocating to Kuala Lumpur in 2025. The news prompted her to reassess her career path and begin searching for new opportunities.
“I’ve found a new job. I took the chance to leave at the right time and made a smooth exit before the company moved. I feel relieved and thankful for the opportunity,” she said.
Netizens began flooding the comment section with stories of their own experiences.
“I’ve been with the same company for almost 20 years. If we already feel comfortable, have enough to eat, less debt, and feel lazy to seriously look for a new job, then we just stay. Even if it’s just the usual annual increment.”
“Same here. I’ve stayed for about 7 years because it’s close to home, just 5 minutes away.”
“Same here too. 10 years in the same company but the salary range is still around RM2,000. But if the company relocates, I’ll look for another job.”
Meanwhile, others offered a different perspective on her situation.
“After 10 years, your salary could easily reach five figures.”
“Go find a new job. These days, new staff are already starting with a salary of RM2,500, even without experience. With experience, it can go up to RM3,200 during probation.”
“Many people get stuck in their ‘comfort zone’. But that comfort won’t take you far. It’s good that you’re opening your eyes now. It’s not too late.”
