Malaysian singer, 44 Airel, released his new single “Sempurna” recently to highlight ongoing social issues, but the reception has been underwhelming. Muslim preacher, PU Syed Mohd Bakri Syed Ishak, shared his take on the music video last night (June 17).
He dubbed the music video “rubbish” and “almost pornographic.”
In the Sempurna music video, Airel is seen being involved in illegal racing, visiting nightclubs, and getting into a fight, but one of the scenes that is being talked about the most features Airel in bed with another woman seducing him, prompting the couple to kiss off-screen.
In response to the music video, which PU Syed called “the most rubbish music video from a young singer,” the preacher calls for relevant authorities to filter music videos before they go live on social media, which is easily accessible by the youth today. PU Syed also said there is no need to go to this extent to boost the image of the video maker and the singers.
“Why do you need to include semi-explicit scenes like the ones in the music video? You don’t need to do that to highlight ongoing social issues.”
In his Facebook post, PU Syed also suggested that the authorities take action against the music video as a lesson to the young talent.
“These young talents, especially the Muslim ones should be taught about the Halal and Haram in religion. Or at least, change to a syariah-compliant music video. Your intention does not make you right.”
Airel responds
In the comment section of the YouTube video, Airel said that he is well aware of the criticisms directed towards his video. While he accepted them with an open mind, Airel explained that everything in the video was merely an act.
“It has nothing to do with anyone, it was all fictional to highlight the ongoing social issues.”
“I respect all opinions. Thank you to those who support, and those who gave constructive criticisms.”
