A luxury MPV owner’s attempt to prevent his vehicle from being repossessed by the bank failed miserably as he was found out by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) recently during its Op Tahun Baharu Cina operation for Chinese New Year.
This is after the 36-year-old man tried to hide his Toyota Alphard with overdue payments in plain sight by putting his wife’s plate number registration on it.

According to Kosmo!, the man was stopped by JPJ at around 11.51am yesterday (27 January) at Jalan Sungai Buloh-Shah Alam while en route to send his son to a defence arts exhibition in Subang on the Alphard, with his wife also inside the vehicle.
JPJ Selangor director Azrin Borhan asserted that initial checks found that the plate number didn’t match with the Alphard, though the suspect did possess a valid driving licence that’s expiring in 2028.

Azrin added,
“The suspect is believed to have been using the false plate number for 6 months after moving from Sarawak to Peninsular Malaysia.
“He did so because he feared that his MPV would be seized by the bank due to overdue monthly payments.”
Investigations further revealed that the false plate number was registered to his wife’s BMW 318i and that the suspect had purchased the Alphard in 2021.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 108(3)(f) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
