Times are tough, and it’s not easy to keep a business running, and even more so for the business to survive for decades and generations.
In his Facebook post, a Malaysian businessman, Sunny Seow recently shared a kind deed he had done to ensure the survival of a Nasi Lemak business in Kulai, Johor. The vendor told Sunny that she was asked by the building owner to cease her operations because she had a 1-year outstanding rent. According to Sunny, he has been patronising the restaurant since he was 7 years old.
And he was not going to let the business end just because of the vendor’s debts. Not without a fight. After sharing her story with Sunny, the businessman immediately handed her the amount of money she needed.
“I did not hesitate. I gave her the money without 2nd thought, and told her to pay to the relevant GLC.”
“What do you mean, 1Malaysia? Where is it?”
In his post, Sunny said the restaurant used to be crowded every day, and a bus stop nearby the location helped in booming the business. However, things changed after the bus stop was abandoned, and it was no longer part of the public transport route.
The crowd grew smaller, which led the vendor to her debt. To Sunny, it’s such a waste and a heartbreak to see a long-running business coming to an end, especially when they have been serving good food for generations.
“I’ve introduced this place to many people. I’ve been here since it was started by her grandfather, before her father took over and now, she’s running the business herself. It has been 50 years now.”
Unhappy with the closure notice, Sunny, who runs a beancurd business decided to chip in and help the vendor financially. This has made him question the value of 1Malaysia and the role of government in helping the needy.
Sunny, however, did not disclose the amount of money given to her.
“As a Chinese, I can help this single mother regardless of her race. Why is the government not helping? This place belongs to Kulai, and I’m not taking it away from the people in Kulai”
Sunny also questioned if the agencies have intentions to rent the place to foreigners at higher prices, and said,
“Where is your 1Malaysia spirit?”
Sunny also confirmed that the matter is now settled after his FB post went viral, and after the outstanding rental fees have been settled!
