International travel is not a rarity for Malaysians who are looking to experience different cultures for a brief moment. Among some of the hottest spots for travel-goers is Thailand, especially, its capital city of Bangkok! However, it can be difficult for first-time travellers to anticipate what to expect from Bangkok for the first time if not equipped with all the right information.

One Malaysian TikToker named Sofea Rozaidi, however, recently decided to share 10 things she wished she knew before going to Bangkok, giving tips to her viewers as well. Posting a clip of her opinions to her TikTok page @gadisdankoceng, her tips may be handy for those who are travelling there soon.

In her first tip, Sofea stated that most public toilets do not have bidets, except at restaurants and hotels. Suggesting an option to viewers that she plans to use herself, Sofea said that it would be better for people to bring portable bidets with them. Secondly, Sofea opined that SIM cards can be relatively expensive in Thailand, and suggested to Malaysians to not buy them at airports if they get the chance.

As a backpacker, Sofea stated in her third tip that buying additional clothing in Bangkok is a feasible option over having to pack heavy, as it is cheaper to purchase clothes there due to the currency exchange. When booking hotels, Sofea also advised Malaysians to pay in their local currency, which is Thai Bhat (THB), as they’d be able to save more money in those situations.

“My room had a water heater, air conditioning, a sofa, and even a television with Netflix. I paid just about THB1,400 (approximately RM194) for a four-day-three-night trip,” said Sofea before providing pictures of her stay.

Moving forward, Sofea stated that since there are various forms of public transportation in Thailand, Malaysians travelling around Bangkok would save more money by using those options. For her sixth tip, Sofea also informed travellers to remember it starts getting dark in Thailand earlier than in Malaysia, and therefore to plan their activities accordingly.

In an effort to beat the heat, Sofea added in her seventh tip for travellers to bring portable neck fans with them, as visitors will normally be on the go and should keep the heat of Thailand in mind when going about their day.

Specifically referring to all Muslims, Sofea also mentioned that it is relatively easy to find halal food in Bangkok. Tying this into her ninth point, Sofea spoke of a few malls in Bangkok to visit, including those which have prayer rooms for Muslim visitors.

For her 10th and final point, Sofea said that even a week’s worth of a trip is not enough to explore Bangkok, telling users to plan accordingly to ensure their vacation is maximised as much as possible.

“It’s not enough to explore Bangkok as a whole! So if you want to go to their good malls, try all their food, experience the nightlife of the city, see the beautiful views, and so much more, a week isn’t enough. You need more than that,” said Sofea at the end of the video.
