A Malaysian content creator recently shared a heartwarming moment where food delivery riders had banded together to help search for a girl with Down syndrome, who had run off out of fear after hearing firecrackers in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur.

Taking to his Facebook page, Ben Choong 棒小钟 shared how his friend had postponed their plans because the friend’s sister, a girl with Down syndrome, had gone missing in Sri Petaling for 2 hours at that point.

“I didn’t say anything and immediately drove out to help find her, after all, one extra person means one more pair of eyes, it increases the chances of finding her,” he said.

Food delivery riders and e-hailing drivers to the rescue!

However, when he arrived at Sri Petaling, he noticed that many shops were already closed for the night.

He still took the opportunity to ask the few open shops, if they had seen the girl.

“In order to speed up the search, I also chose to rent a scooter to find her, and after looking for about an hour, there were still no clues,” he explained.

His friend had also sent about 8 to 10 people to help find the missing girl, leading them to approach food delivery riders in the area for assistance. The food delivery riders, too, assisted in spreading the news about the missing girl in their respective WhatsApp groups and this proved fruitful!

“Finally, the girl’s aunt received a WhatsApp message from a stranger confirming that a Grab driver had found her, and this Grab driver had found her in Bukit Jalil,” he said, adding that the girl could have walked all the way to Bukit Jalil to avoid the sound of firecrackers.

However, the kindness doesn’t stop there.

Someone had apparently given the girl RM5 to buy food, out of concern that she might be hungry. A delivery rider had also used up all of the money he had on hand to ensure the girl got home safely.

The delivery rider, who had only earned RM30 that day, had searched the girl’s bag to find her address so that he could book her an e-hailing ride home.

Considering the ride cost RM37, the delivery rider even borrowed RM7 from someone else to book the journey.

The riders and drivers involved in the search, which consisted of people of different races and religions, all received red packets from Ben Choong 棒小钟 and the girl’s family, in a show of appreciation for their kindness and empathy.

What do you think of this touching situation? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
