Due to financial problems, 3 siblings from Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, decided to migrate to Melbourne, Australia, to earn a living by venturing into part-time agriculture jobs.

According to a report by Harian Metro, the siblings migrated to Australia in 2019 in an effort to earn a living in the country together and have been participating in 4 jobs there.

Three sisters migrated to Australia and found a living

Specifically, they work picking grapes, picking broccoli, packing apples, as well as planting, picking and packing tomatoes.

“We work here seasonally. For example, from January to May, we pick grapes. After that, we pick broccoli for about 2 to 3 months. After the vegetable season, we move to apple packing and then, we get involved in planting, picking and packing tomatoes,” shared 40-year-old Tuan Nooraida Tuan Min, the eldest sibling.

She further explained that she earns about AUD5,000 (~RM13,800) a month through farming work.

“From the work done here, the financial problems that were previously incurred have been resolved.”

No plans to return to Malaysia anytime soon

Despite missing their family members in Malaysia, the three sisters are happy with their work in Australia and plan to continue working there for the time being.

“I enjoy and am happy working with my siblings here. It is more fun when we also gain new knowledge from starting to plant fruits or vegetables, to picking them. But, at the same time, we also feel sad because we have left our family (in Malaysia),”

“When working at these people’s places, sometimes a livelihood is uncertain. But when we work hard here, we earn a good income. Maybe I will return one day, but not now,” she added.

For those who want to travel to Australia to do similar jobs, she encourages them to do so the right and legal way, by applying for a work visa.
