Recently, a viral post claimed that a Toyota Alphard was allegedly seized by Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers from outside of a house, apparently due to the vehicle not having a valid road tax.

Now, the owner of the vehicle is speaking out about the difficulties in getting the vehicle back, after it had been seized on Saturday (30 August).

Malaysian woman slams JPJ for the difficulties she endured in retrieving her seized Toyota Alphard

The owner, a businesswoman from Pahang, Sara Nara, shared that the vehicle, which actually belonged to her late husband, was seized despite her insistence that she would renew the road tax immediately.

She wrote, “On 30 August, my Toyota Alphard was seized by 3 JPJ officers in conjunction with Ops Luxury Car. The reason? The road tax has expired. At that time, I immediately pleaded with my insurance agent, in front of the officers, to activate the road tax. I asked to be summoned because I really wanted to renew the road tax on the spot. I really forgot about it.”

“But my appeal was not entertained at all. My children were crying in the car. I explained that it was my late husband’s car and shared my concern that the process of retrieving it would be complicated. The officer just replied, ‘If you have activated the road tax, bring the grant and you can take it back. ‘. In the end, the car was seized.”

She went on to explain that the vehicle was full of items meant to go towards opening a booth at a bazaar. Though due to the vehicle being seized, that plan was ruined.

No valid documents to get the car back

As per the officer’s instructions, Sara Nara activated the road tax and went to retrieve the Toyota Alphard, though she was allegedly told she couldn’t due to the complications she was initially worried about.

“Now, the road tax is there. The car has also been paid off; it is no longer under bank debt. But JPJ still won’t release the vehicle because their standard operating procedures (SOPs) state that I don’t have a valid document as the administrator of the deceased’s estate. The question is, is this SOP completely inconsiderate? This isn’t a criminal’s car, it’s not a drug vehicle,”

“This is the family car, my late husband’s car that I use to send my 4 small kids to school, to run my business, for our everyday life. I am really stressed. Life is getting hard without our main vehicle. JPJ Pahang, please be considerate. Do all officers only know how to blindly follow SOPs like robots?”

She ended her post by sharing her prayer that the family members of the JPJ officers involved will endure similar hardships.
