M’sian Student in UK Shares Tip On Getting Super Spicy Food When Living Abroad
Where you at cili-potong gang?!
If you’re a Malaysian, chances are, your spice tolerance is probably higher than most and this can be proven if it’s a must for you to have chopped chillies with soy sauce or sambal belacan with every meal. It’s definitely a struggle for most Malaysians when they live abroad and not being able to find just the right amount of spice.
This was definitely the case for Kash Arumugam, a Malaysian, currently studying at the University of Liverpool, England. Frustrated with the lack of spiciness, she decided to take the matter into her own hands when she visited an authentic Thai restaurant.
“Malaysians studying overseas know the struggle of ordering something ‘spicy’ and receiving chilli sauce level spiciness. This is an authentic Thai restaurant where I’ve ordered before and it wasn’t spicy. I added this note and got the perfect spice level, cili padi and all!”
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Kash said she misses Mamak food the most since she’s been away but as a university student, she’s used to just eating whatever that is available. Amazingly, she even managed to find some close substitutions to Malaysian food there.
“Recently I found a Malayali restaurant and was happy to find that the Kerala parotta tastes just like roti canai!”
Not only that, but she also found a Vietnamese restaurant serving spicy chicken noodle soup (bun ga hue) that has a very Malaysian/SEA taste.
Well, to those Malaysians living overseas, Kash has definitely taught us an amazing hack if we ever want to get some spicy food! Is she secretly the one true hantu cili?
