What unsettling news!

According to the New Straits Times, a 24-year-old Malaysian from Johor Bahru studying medicine in Cambridge University, United Kingdom, has been presumed missing this past year.

Ho Zheng Han reportedly took a year off from his studies, after which he suddenly stopped contacting his family. His parents grew alarmed when they discovered immigration records revealing that he entered Malaysia a few times through the border checkpoint at the Johor-Singapore Causeway.

The third year medical student went to the University of Cambridge under a Public Service Department (PSD) scholarship. However, in September 2016, Zheng Han’s father was informed that his son applied for a gap year from his studies.

Understandably worried, his parents only wish their son would tell them that he was safe.

“Even though he informed his university and the PSD about his intention to take a break, he did not inform his family. Maybe he did not want to worry us,” Zheng Han’s father told the daily.

“We tried to contact him for a month but to no avail. We then informed the PSD, who lodged a police report on our behalf. The PSD also wrote to the Immigration Department to help trace our son.”

It was on 3rd October 2016 when the PSD received information that Zheng Han entered Malaysia through the Sultan Iskandar Building customs, immigration and quarantine (CIQ) in Johor Bahru. It was also found that he has been travelling to Malaysia up to as recently as 10th August, leading Zheng Han’s family to believe that he might be working in Singapore.

The student’s family tried contacting his friends, but they claimed they weren’t aware of his whereabouts either.

Desperate to reach out to him, Zheng Han’s family asked Johor MCA Government Coordinating Affairs chairman Michael Tay Chee Boon for help. He arranged a press conference for the family at his office earlier today (11th September).

“Before he stopped contacting us, I would talk to him on Skype once every two to three weeks. We’d talk for 15 to 20 minutes each time and he never told us of any problem he had,” his father continued.

“My son is very independent. Maybe a bit too independent. But I miss him very much and we are worried about his well-being.”

We hope Zheng Han is safe and reaches out to his family soon. No family should have to go through such heartache!

If you have any information of this student’s whereabouts, contact Michael Tay at 019-777 8935.
