It’s inspiring to witness teachers going the extra mile to ensure their students have a safe and enjoyable learning experience. What better way to kick things off than by transforming the classroom into an even more exciting space?

In a recent post by teacher Cikgu Al Tarmizi, he shared his journey of transforming a typical classroom in Sarawak into a cafe-themed setting to give his students a different atmosphere for their learning experience.

“From a regular classroom to a more comfortable one”

Cikgu Tarmizi shared how, in celebration of Teacher’s Day, he decided to invest his own money to bring his creative vision to life.

In the post, he explained that even when teaching in remote areas, he would always make sure the classroom is a nice environment for his students to learn happily.

“I’m sure many other teachers are also working hard for their students. Some even use their own money to help their students learn better,” he added.

His dad inspired him to become a teacher

Cikgu Tarmizi shared that teaching at a rural school is where he began his teaching career, revealing that that’s when he experienced rural schooling for the 1st time.

“Just because it’s a rural school, that didn’t stop me from wanting to become a teacher. I teach in rural Sarawak and still love it to this day.”

He continued to share how his passion for becoming a teacher was inspired by his dad’s stories about how he really wanted to be a teacher when he was younger.

However, his father could only attend school until he was in standard 4, which made Cikgu Tarmizi want to become a teacher to fulfill his dad’s dream.

Cikgu Tarmizi has 11 siblings in total!

Cikgu Tarmizi further shared that he is the 8th child out of 11 siblings, and interestingly, 8 of them chose teaching as their career, while the others chose different paths.

“My dad used to tell me stories about how he really wanted to be a teacher when he was young, but he could only go to school until he was in standard 4. That made me want to become a teacher to make his dream come true. I have 11 siblings, and I’m the 8th child. 8 of us became teachers, while the others chose different careers.”

He also mentioned how his journey to becoming a teacher wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine, given his exam scores. But with determination and hard work, he eventually made it as a teacher.

Big shoutout to all the teachers out there who are willing to go above and beyond to ensure their students not only learn but also have fun while doing it!
