Many Malaysians often travel to and from Singapore on a daily basis and have no problem getting through immigration for the most part. However, if you’re not careful, you can get accused of illegally entering the country!
Earlier this week (19th December), a Malaysian Facebook user from Johor Bahru shared an unexpected problem he encountered at an immigration checkpoint while driving to Singapore for work. It is unclear which checkpoint this is.
His post translates,
“Today I drove to Singapore for work. I was stuck at the immigration checkpoint for an hour and had a stomach ache, so I needed to go to the toilet.”
“I got out of my car and walked to the junction. I walked over to the immigration officials, who asked me what I was doing. I told them I was having a stomach ache and needed to use the restroom urgently.”
“However, one officer told me to just do my business on the ground because they did not want to take me to the restroom.”
“The officer changed his mind, though, and decided to take me to the toilet but told me I only had five minutes. It made me feel like a prisoner.”
“He then took me to the office where he handed me a letter of illegal entry. I was told I had to go back to Malaysia and re-enter Singapore.”
The Facebook user then ended his post with a warning for all Malaysians who wished to enter Singapore, saying,
“Just a warning to friends who are working in Singapore, if you have a stomach ache and feel like you need to relieve yourself, do not walk to the Singapore side of the checkpoint and use the toilet there. Walk back to the Malaysian side instead. Don’t let the Singaporean immigration officers embarrass you.”
Well, let’s hope he’s more careful when travelling to Singapore in the future!
