While the month of Ramadan stands to be particularly special to many Malaysians, we often forget that other countries around the globe also observe this spiritual period, and carry out many similar practices to us as well. Among some of these countries include Thailand. And wouldn’t you know it – they also have Ramadan bazaars with a variety of food for locals to gorge on as well!

A recent TikTok video has been making waves online after a user who goes by Kak Yaya shared a recent trip she made to Hat Yai on her page @kak.yy, where she experienced one of their bustling Ramadan bazaars for the first time – and let’s just say, it did not disappoint!

In the video, Kak Yaya revealed that there are 2 main Ramadan bazaars operating in Hat Yai. One of them included the one she was at in the clip called the Hat Yai Nai Bazaar, which is located near the Hat Yai Nai Post Office, thereby getting its name.

“When you enter the area, you can see a row of stalls selling traditional Malay foods with a Thai spin on them. If you guys love Thai food, this is the time to come and find some of the rarest food items here that you’ve probably never seen before,” said Kak Yaya in her video.

Speaking on the variety of food present at the bazaar, Kak Yaya panned her camera to show an array of Thai kuih, quick bites, and desserts too. Kak Yaya also stated that the price is incredibly cheap when compared to other foods usually bought from Malaysian bazaars.

Among some of the items that could be viewed in her TikTok video included pieces of roast chicken for THB90 (approximately RM11), fresh longan juice for THB30 (approximately RM3.90), meat patties for THB10 (approximately RM1.30), and Korean fried chicken for THB10 as well.

Additionally, Kak Yaya also stated that most of the people who come to this bazaar are Thai Muslims who also observe Ramadan, and they know how to speak the Malay language as well. However, Kak Yaya did inform viewers that a few stalls accept a variety of payment methods, though some only use QR pay.

Garnering a big response from Malaysians, many viewers were shocked to see the vast difference in price when compared to the bazaars in Malaysia, regardless of the currency conversion. Surprisingly, multiple locals who live near the boarder of Malaysia and Thailand revealed that they often travel to Hat Yai as well, just to experience their Ramadan bazaars.

Every day I go there to see what they sell at the Ramadan bazaar. It’s very cheap boss!” commented one user.
