Months and years of savings, only for the cash to be deliciously devoured by termites. That was the heartbreak that a Malaysian woman had to go through recently after finding the banknotes in her piggybank had turned into waste paper.
In the viral TikTok post by @madam_mama06, the woman showed damaged banknotes which had been eaten by termites. The money belonged to her mum, who has been saving for around 2 months only.
80% of the total amount were eaten by these pests.
It seemed like the termites knew which one to go for. If you look closely, most of the RM50 notes were badly damaged as compared to other banknotes.
@madam_mama06 concealed the heartbreak with some jokes to lessen the pain.
“The RM50 tasted like chocolate berries, the RM20 notes tasted like Biscoff for the termites.”
In response to social media users’ questions, the woman admitted that she had no idea why and how the termite found their way to the cash.
“The termites didn’t tell me in advance. I would’ve stopped them if I knew. We’ve always put our piggybanks at the same place but this time, they found their way to the banknotes.”
In a conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, the woman said her mum wanted to save money, which she got from her business before depositing the money into her savings account. Unfortunately, the termites “deposited” the cash into their stomach before anything else.
“Many people have DM-ed me and told me to get new banknotes from the bank, which I’ll be doing.”
The woman, who is from Kelantan also told WORLD OF BUZZ that the incident had never happened before and she couldn’t disclose the exact amount of money saved before the banknotes were devoured. However, for those who are still saving their cash for rainy days in a piggy bank, here’s a tip that she shared with us.
“You have to find a perfect spot to place your piggy bank, especially if you’re staying in a wooden house. We never know when the termites will pay us a visit.”
