The Malaysian woman who recently went viral for setting her motorcycle on fire to avoid it from being towed away told the court that she regretted her actions.

In her statement before the sessions court yesterday, the accused, Zainatul Rafeda Zainul Abidin, told the court, “I plead guilty. I regret it, Your Honor.”

She is now facing charges under Section 435 of the Penal Code. If convicted, Zainatul could be sentenced to up to 14 years in prison and a fine. The accused, represented by a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK), Ng Wei Jun, requested that the bail of RM20,000 with one surety offered by the court be reduced.

This is because the accused is a trader who makes merely RM1,000 a month and has four children to support, while her husband suffered a stroke on one side of his body, reported Berita Harian.

Wei also stated that his client was willing to comply with the additional conditions with no risk of absconding and convinced the court by highlighting that this is also Zainatul’s first offence.

The judge then set bail at RM4,000 with one surety along with additional conditions requested by the prosecution.

Last week, Zainatul went viral for setting fire to her black Honda RSX motorcycle, which was worth RM7,000. It was reported that Zainatul was 20 months behind on her loan, which prompted the bank to repossess her motorcycle.

Firefighters were called to put out the fire.
