School trips can be beneficial, especially when they expose students to outside cultures from which they can learn. But when it comes to primary school, is a trip that costs nearly RM5,000 too expensive?

A primary school in Johor Bahru is organising a trip for its students to Yunnan, China, for 6 days and 5 nights, at a total of RM4,888. The trip will take place from September 15 to 2o this year.

The cost includes tour leader service, international round-trip air tickets, luggage check-in, travel insurance, local transportation arrangements, 5 nights of accommodation, meals, attraction tickets, a Chinese tour guide, and others.

The purpose of the trip? According to the poster,  the trip is made to conduct cultural exchanges with local students and experience the local classroom environment and teaching methods, which was described as a rare growth opportunity.

“They can develop a wider, international perspectives while also increase their knowledge. This is a rare growth opportunity.”

The parents who allow their students to be part of the trip will have to pay in CASH only, as other payment methods are not accepted.

“We have 13 states in Malaysia. Have you explored them all?”

Social media users, on the other hand, were baffled at the price and location, as some believed that the trip could be done domestically.

“With 13 states in Malaysia, may I know how many states the students in this school have gone to?

“It’s quite a trend recently to visit Yunnan. I’m wondering if the teachers themselves are excited to go?”

“Those who cannot make it will have a tough time when they get compared with the students who can go on the trip. Students today love to compare,” said a user.

“We have many local places that are worth exploring, too. Why must the students go someplace far?

Another user commented, “Looking at the venue, is it meant for the students or the headmaster?”

“What about the financially poor students? Life and meals themselves are challenging enough, how are they going to make it financially for this trip?”

What do you think of this trip? Is the price worth it for a lifetime experience, or is it NOT the time yet for the students to travel this far for educational purposes?
