Now, it is understandable that TikTokers and TikTok trends have caused problems in the past (does anyone remember the disgusting supermarket ice cream licking trend?), but what is truly scary is the genuine hatred and anger Malaysians have towards TikTokers and their antics.

For instance, a group of 4 girls were caught on camera doing a TikTok dance routine in the middle of a what looks like a Ramadan bazaar or a night market. But due to many believing that their attire and dance moves are too provocative for vendors and visitors at the night market, netizens have suggested that oil should have poured on the girls.

The 我们是马来西亚人 We are Malaysians Facebook page took to their profile to share the video.

They wrote, “Should splash them with oil.”

According to the Bro Bongkar YouTube page, the video was believed to have been taken in Malaysia back in 2020, where the girls can be seen doing the Takata challenge which requires TikTokers to catwalk in heels.

As the video is once again going viral online, netizens have since agreed that the girls should have been splashed with oil.

“Wouldn’t be nice if I’m there when they were dancing? Can splash them with water or hot oil, only then will they use their brains.”

“If this was my area, they would already have been splashed with cooking oil.”

“Dancing at a bazaar. Their future is bright with free oil baths and free backlash.”

Considering a lot of the anger stems from the fact that people believe the incident took place during the holy month of Ramadan in front of devotees who are fasting, some have taken the initiative to debunk this theory.

This netizen wrote, “Before getting excited with threats, investigate first. It’s not a Ramadan bazaar. I hope that all of you who can’t wait to turn this issue into one of religious sensitivity, don’t slander as you please. Yes, this culture, if it happens in Malaysia, it is not suitable in my opinion but not to the point where they should be condemned, beaten, splashed with water or oil.”

Others have also pointed out that we shouldn’t be so quick to resort to violence, while also reminding us of our place (which is not above the law or God).

While it is understandable that, in our conservative country, such public displays may not be well received. But that doesn’t mean that these girls should be subjected to violence, especially considering they’re not physically hurting anyone.

On top of that, such mindsets only perpetuate victim blaming culture in Malaysia, where rape or sexual assault victims are blamed and shamed for their choices of clothing.

Let’s all respect the laws of our country that state that we cannot cause harm to others as we please.
