Just yesterday (22nd November), Maybank updated its mobile banking app to include Face ID and Voice ID features to help authenticate users’ identities.
Now, the app has three biometric authentication features along with the “Quick Touch” service.
So, if customers wish to access their accounts and check their bank balance using the app, all they need to do is use the Face or Voice ID features. However, if they wish to make transactions, users will have to login using their passwords.
According to their description on the App Store, Maybank states that they are the first in Malaysia to have three biometric features used for authentication.

“Mobile banking transactions have been growing at a phenomenal rate of over 95 per cent in the first 10 months of this year reflecting an increased demand for banking on-the-go convenience,” Maybank head of community financial Services Malaysia, Datuk Hamirullah Boorhan told The Star.
He noted that their customers have been logging into the app at an increasing rate ever since they introduced the fingerprint scanning feature.
“Understanding this user behaviour, we felt that offering our customers more seamless alternatives to check their account balances instantly will be well received.”

With the installation of the Face and Voice ID features, customers without fingerprint-scanning features on their phones can get to use the app with more convenience, too.
If you’re using the Maybank2u app and wish to update it, your phone’s front facing camera must have a minimum resolution of 2.0 megapixels and has to include a built-in microphone for the new Face and Voice ID features to work.
“We want to create something that offers a totally different and delightful experience whilst ensuring that the security elements have been well taken care of. The more seamless and less intrusive the experience, the higher the satisfaction levels will be,” stated Datuk Hamirullah.
