Deputy Head of PAS Youth Mohd Hafez Sabri recently took to his Facebook page to call out an incident that took place outside of Menara Condong, Teluk Intan, Perak, where a group of people could be seen gathering and waving China flags.

He wrote, “This is very overboard behaviour! Why are they so excited to raise the flag of other countries while in our homeland? What kind of ceremony is this?”

“Under the National Emblem (Control of Display) Act 1949 (Act 193), Section 3 says that no person shall display any national emblem including the flag of a foreign country in a public place or school. This incident took place at Menara Condong, Teluk Intan, Perak.”

He also called for Teluk Intan MP Nga Kor Ming to take responsibility for this incident and provide an explanation as to what was going on.

“The Perak state government must be firm on this issue of national sovereignty and the dignity of the state of Perak. Don’t be soft at the wrong time!”

Many have since echoed his sentiments and condemned both the act of waving China’s flag in Malaysia and the lack of action by law enforcement.

“Where have the leaders gone? Is PDRM sleeping? Incidents like this can cause racial riots. It starts small but what will happen later?”

“What is happening to this country?”

“Where is the police? Where is the Home Minister? Is everyone sleeping?”

“Where is PDRM? This can cause anger and riots.”

Multiple videos of the incident have since gone viral online, which showcase the large group believed to be foreign tourists gathering outside Menara Condong while waving and parading China flags.

Persatuan Kebudayaan Guan Gong Malaysia has responded

Persatuan Kebudayaan Guan Gong Malaysia took to their Facebook page to clarify that the group carrying the China flags during their World Guan Gong Celebration at the location were Chinese tourists and NOT local participants.

“As the party organising the World Guan Gong Celebration in Malaysia, we would like to apologise for the incident of Chinese flags being waved by a group of Chinese nationals (not Malaysian residents) on the night of the parade in Teluk Intan, Perak, which took place on October 24 (Thursday),”

“For everyone’s information, the act of flying the flag of another country was never planned in the existing programme by the organisers. In each of these celebrations in various states, the organisers will fly the Malaysian flag, the Jalur Gemilang, as a symbol of patriotism. The parade and celebration in Teluk Intan, Perak, is no exception to that,” shared Soon Boon Hua, the Chairman of the Persatuan Kebudayaan Guan Gong Malaysia.
