All across Malaysia, there are people who are making an effort to poison dogs.

And while many of them have yet to be caught, the Penang City Council is putting in the work to ensure that the person who has been poisoning dogs in their state be brought to justice.

The Penang City Council (MBPP) took to their Facebook page to inform the public of their steps towards catching the serial dog murderer in their state, which includes installing CCTVs and offering a reward for information on the perpetrator.

They wrote, “The Penang City Council takes this seriously and will take strict action against the cruel and inhumane act of the perpetrator who sprinkled poison into food, resulting in the death of 29 dogs (on purpose) in the Island Glades residential area.”

“Acting in the interest of the public, Ms Connie Tan along with Mr Quah Boon Lim and Ms Nurhafiza Huda Binti Idris, Councilors and officers of the Penang City Council, went to the field today (April 5 – Wednesday) to meet the residents of the surrounding area to get an idea of the real situation that is happening to the unfortunate dogs.”

MBPP is also cooperating with the Penang Veterinary Services Department by providing them with information and support services in order to successfully prosecute the perpetrator.

If convicted in accordance with Act 772 with specific sections for offences that include Section 29 of for animal cruelty, Section 30 of killing animals and Section 31 for using poison, the perpetrator can be subjected to a maximum fine of RM100,000 and imprisonment of up to 3 years or both at once.

In order to catch the cruel person and to avoid future incidents, they have taken several steps

“As a preventive measure so that this condemned act does not happen again, the Penang City Council has identified several strategic locations for the installation of closed circuit cameras (CCTVs) to monitor the movements of suspicious individuals.”

“Choon Koon Yean, the Manager of International Aid for the Protection and Welfare of Animals (IAPWA) Penang, who was also present at the meeting session, informed that IAPWA in collaboration with some partners has offered a reward of RM5,000 to any individual who comes forward to channel accurate information on past incidents for legal action to be taken,” they added.

Many have since praised MBPP for their efforts in curbing animal cruelty:
