There’s no way of sugarcoating this but the Covid-19 situation has reached levels that we can no longer comprehend. Just a year ago, we were losing our minds when the positive cases reached 500 plus but today, we sigh in relief when the cases reported are over 2K instead of the usual 3K or 4K.

What’s more disappointing is that many believe the government has proven over and over that they’re not competent enough to be dealing with the pandemic. Malaysians have pointed out the ridiculousness of whatever step or future “incentive” they’ve planned. The latest was when Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, visited patients at the MAEPS Serdang Quarantine Centre.

In a Facebook post, the PM said that the operation at the MAEPS centre is an unusual action in an unusual situation.

“I am very proud to see their determination and patience in carrying out their duties to ensure the welfare and best treatment for all patients.”

Despite his motivational Facebook post, Malaysians over social media pointed out several problematic aspects of his visit there. Firstly being, none of the patients nor were any of his entourage members practising physical distancing.

“It seems like our beloved “Abah” visited the MAEPS and everyone praising is over him for that. You should look at pictures they took there. No SOP, and cringe af.”

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Health Minister,  Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. Netizens also pointed out that the visit made the patients look like as if they were part of a freak show!

Currently, with a maximum capacity of 10,000, the centre is 90 per cent occupied. However, the question still begs, why did these ministers visit the centre when it was their lax rulings that put most of the patients there in the first place?

Since the start of 2021, several ministers have tested positive for Covid-19 including Multimedia and Communications Deputy Minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin, Minister of Home Affairs, Hamzah Zainuddin and the latest to join the list is Padang Rengas Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz who tested positive yesterday (19 January).

Speaking to Astro Awani, he even said that it’s “fun” to stay in the hospital. As one netizen pointed out, these politicians should be quarantined in MAEPS with the rakyat as well to actually know what goes on in there.
