The Ministry of Education (MOE) had earlier announced that all students in educational institutions under its purview must wear a Jalur Gemilang badge on their uniforms.

In response, the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) called on the government to take a more considerate approach in implementing this initiative, saying safety should come first, especially since many parents have voiced concerns about the sharp pins.

A student accidentally stepped on the sharp pin

Recently, photos of a student went viral after she accidentally stepped on a Jalur Gemilang pin that had fallen on the ground at school.

The sharp needle ended up piercing through her foot, leaving her injured and needing to be rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

According to Kwong Wah, the incident came to light after photos showed the girl in a wheelchair, with the Jalur Gemilang pin stuck in the sole of her right foot.

Parents are urging schools to review the policy

It was reported that many parents left comments urging the MOE and schools to review the current policy that requires students to wear the Jalur Gemilang pin.

Some parents said their children kept the badge in their pockets because it was too loose.

However, not all schools allow the badge to be sewn onto uniforms, and some allegedly even strictly forbid students from changing how they wear it.

There were also claims that some schools made students stand during assembly as punishment, which has only added to the frustration and sparked even more questions from parents.
