Just minutes before Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was sworn in as the 10th Prime Minister at the Royal Palace, his opposition, PN PM candidate Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin challenged Anwar to prove his legitimacy as PM.
During a press conference, Muhyiddin requested for Anwar to prove that he commands the majority of the Dewan Rakyat to be appointed PM.
Muhyiddin insisted he still commands the majority support of the newly elected members of parliament in the 15th General Elections (GE15).
He went on to question the issue of the 24-hour deadline extension given by the palace for the respective coalitions to prove their numbers and repeated that he had on Monday submitted the statutory declarations (SDs) from 115 MPs to the palace.
“Istana Negara has issued a statement that Anwar has the majority and will be appointed as Prime Minister. If Anwar has the majority, he must show it not just to us, but the whole country.”
“We want to see it first, give him the chance. If he can prove it, he must show the SDs,” he said.
He explained that 114 statutory declarations were sent to Istana Negara of MPs expressing their unconditional trust for him to be appointed as PM.
“There were 73 MPs from PN, 22 from GPS, six from GRS, one from KDM, two independents and 10 from Barisan Nasional,” he added.
He revealed that they also received a SD from another MP, which made it 115.
Muhyiddin was accompanied by Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, party secretary-general Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin and Parti Gerakan Malaysia president Datuk Dominic Lau.
