As if the heatwave is not bad enough, here comes haze!

It has been reported that the heatwave is expected to last until August this year, and while we have shared some tips to brave through the scorching weather, it seems like we need to ramp up our survival game to brace through not only the heat but also haze.

At the time of writing, Kuala Lumpur reports an air pollution index of 147, which is in the “red” unhealthy zone! You can look at the images below which were taken in the Mid Valley area.

It appears that KL is not the only place in Malaysia affected by the haze. At the moment, Petaling Jaya reports an air pollution index of 139. Although the amount is slightly lower than KL, it is still categorised as “unhealthy”.

According to IQ Air, multiple zones in Klang have reported an unhealthy reading of air pollution as well, which currently stands at 145. As for Shah Alam, the current reading for the air pollution index stands at an unhealthy 113.

According to the website, the worst state hit by the haze is Kelantan, with a reading of 169, followed by Segamat in Joor at 160. You can refer to the list here.

Stay indoors, and rehydrate!

Haze and heatwave. The 2 Hs that we don’t want but have no choice but to brace. Regardless, life goes on, and here’s what we can do to reduce the risk of getting sick.

It’s probably the best time to mask up again when you’re outdoors. This is not only to embrace the haze but also the newly-found variant of the Covid-19 virus. If you’re home, make sure the windows and doors are closed to prevent the haze from entering, and this is important especially if you have children or the elderly at home, who tend to fall ill easily.

For those who enjoy jogging or any outdoor activities, this is perhaps the best time for you to reduce outdoor activities. Better be safe than sorry!

When you’re home, fans and air-conditioning can be used for better air circulation and cooling, as suggested by Health Hub.

Last but not least, which is also the basic yet the most important one, rehydrate yourself by drinking plenty of fluids!

Many of us may have foreseen the haze but we truly did not foresee the heatwave and haze coming together. Hopefully, it won’t take us any longer to brace through the notorious weather.
