After surrendering himself to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Namewee is now being remanded for six days until 10 November to assist with the investigation into the murder of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh.

The matter was confirmed by the Dang Wangi district Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Bin Hj Adam, who said the remand procedure was conducted in the detention room at the police district headquarters. Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, surrendered himself to the police at the Dang Wangi Police Station today at 1:10 AM, accompanied by his lawyer and friends.

Iris’s body is still in Kuala Lumpur Hospital

31-year-old Iris Hsieh was found dead in the bathtub at one of the rooms in the Banyan Tree Hotel on 22 October. The matter was initially ruled as sudden death (SDR) after her cause of death was reported to be a heart attack, but PDRM reclassified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code following further investigations.

PDRM, however, has not allowed the body to be claimed by anyone as the matter is still under investigation.

The police are also awaiting the autopsy report and will later determine if Namewee is the main suspect. Statements from the hotel employees and security guards have been recorded, and PDRM will investigate the matter from all angles, including the victim’s movements from the day she landed in Malaysia (20 October) until her death, reported Harian Metro.

The police also found ecstasy pills on Namewee when the latter was arrested in the hotel room. The singer, however, pleaded not guilty to two drug charges, and the matter is expected to be heard in court on 18 December.
