In the latest development involving the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, former Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak has reportedly been arrested once again, according to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). He was detained in connection with the deposit of RM2.6 billion of 1MDB funds into his personal account.

According to a statement from the anti-graft agency, Najib was arrested at 4.13pm today (19th September) at their headquarters in Putrajaya and will face more charges under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009. The new charges will be read to him tomorrow (20th September) at the Sessions Court in Jalan Duta.
The MACC will also be working with the Royal Malaysian Police while taking the former prime minister’s statement to assist with police investigations.

According to Free Malaysia Today, a spokesperson from MACC revealed that Najib will reportedly be brought to the Bukit Aman police headquarters where he will be jointly questioned by the police and MACC.
Meanwhile, reports have also suggested that the former prime minister’s wife, Rosmah Mansor, is expected to formally face charges for money laundering as part of investigations into the 1MDB scandal.
