It was said that there was a Chinese tsunami during the 2013 elections previously that was part of the reason that caused the ruling party, Barisan Nasional to lose the popular vote. This time, caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib advises the Malaysian Chinese to think wisely during voting.
According to Kwongwah, he did an interview with several newspapers today (April 27) at Putra World Trade Centre and spoke about this issue. He said that if the Malaysian Chinese did not support Barisan Nasional (BN) or rather the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) in GE14 but BN still wins, then it would be difficult for him to appoint more Chinese ministers in the cabinet, which would mean lesser representation. He added, “If the Malaysian Chinese vote for other political parties then I cannot place Chinese representatives in the cabinet. This would be a sad day, as the government would have a weak Chinese presence.” Najib said that as Malaysia is a multi-racial country, it was important that all races were represented in a newly formed government.
Najib had previously echoed a similar statement at a convention that he could not keep on giving ministerial posts to the Chinese if they did not support BN, Bernama reported.

He appealed to the Malaysian Chinese voters to support them and believes that since the opposition was not able to win the election in 2013, the voters would turn the tide to vote for BN this time around. He said, “BN has been very fair to the Malaysian Chinese and has given them a lot such as building Chinese schools and handing out financial assistance. We are very stable but if you look at the opposition, they are uncertain and cannot fulfill their promises.”
