Recently, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) showcased how they had raided and cracked down on 4 prostitution premises in Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur.
Taking to their Facebook page, they shared how they had arrested 36 foreign women who are believed to be sex workers, and they examined 11 local and foreign men believed to be customers at the 4 locations.
Following this, controversial Malaysian hip hop artist Namewee has called for the legalisation of prostitution in Malaysia, while listing out the benefits of this.
He wrote, “The Malaysian police only dares to catch these poor women, N*ama if you have the b*lls, then go catch robbers, murderers and fraudsters, and then take photos like this and post it up to show how good you are.”
“The ‘legalisation of prostitution’ can reduce the crime rate of sexual assault and reduce the chances of mistresses destroying families. Moreover, the government can effectively control these owners, stipulate the use of condoms, effectively controlling sexually transmitted diseases and provide regular physical examinations for prostitutes,” he explained.
*It is important to note that while Namewee called out the Malaysian police, netizens have pointed out that it was DBKL that conducted the raid, and not the PDRM.
He added that because the industry is illegal, it has also become uncontrollable and went on to share that the government can also tax the industry should they allow it.
“Most importantly, the government can raise taxes reasonably, which is also fair to other industries, the country can earn money and it can also be promoted as tourism,” he said.
“In fact, it is the same as the ‘legalisation of marijuana’ and the ‘legalisation of gambling’. If you ban it, it will still be there, then it is better to face it, solve the problem and turn a double loss into a win-win situation.”
While we might not agree that legalising prostitution will reduce mistresses (and unfaithful husbands) destroying families, his other points are pretty undeniable.
