As we’re all aware of, the cabinet has recently decided to abolish the death penalty once and for all, and the proposition will be tabled in the next Parliament sitting on 15 October (Monday).
After this news broke out, a good percentage of Malaysians didn’t agree with the idea, and Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation director, Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh is one of them.

As reported by Kwong Wah, Mohmad Salleh said he personally disagrees with abolishing the death sentence especially since it is used against drug dealers.
“If you ask me, I personally would lean towards the death penalty (for drug dealers). You have to understand, drug dealers are also killing people slowly with drugs,” he said.
As for our IGP Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, he remains neutral on this topic and can only wait for the cabinet’s decision for now. He added that as a law-enforcer, he would accept whatever decision made by the lawmakers.

Currently, there are over 1,000 inmates on death row in Malaysia and some netizens see life imprisonment as a financial burden to the country.
