A Nasi Lemak restaurant in Kampung Baru, KL, recently went viral for charging its customers based on the number of pax for air conditioning usage.

In a viral X post (formerly known as Twitter) by @MALAYSIAVIRALLL, one of the patrons shared the receipt for the “air-conditioned room charge, which is RM1 per pax, or RM5 in the customer’s case.

A social media user, baffled by the charge, voiced against the culture of charging for everything.

“They might as well charge the patrons for the air around them. I don’t get the crowds, the place doesn’t even serve good food.”

“Stick to regular fans if you don’t have the budget to install air-conditioners”

At the same time, other netizens also expressed their displeasure at seeing customers having to pay for dining in air-conditioned rooms.

“Oh my God. Are they charging the patrons for dining in air-conditioned rooms? This is ridiculous. If you don’t have the budget to install an air-conditioner, just use the regular fans. Customers don’t mind dining under the fans.”

“Just stop going and stop supporting simple things like this. They like to charge the customers for everything. Someday, they might charge the public for free parking and fill up air in your tires,” said a user.

On the other hand, some netizens said the restaurant has been charging patrons for air-conditioned rooms for a long time, and some agreed that the management should charge the customers for comfort.

“It’s fine by me. It’s the cost of installation and it’s a big investment. Just charge the customers reasonably.”

Another commented, “They’ve been doing this for a long time, now it’s a fuss? If you feel hot and you have the budget, go ahead. They have never forced you. If you don’t like it, go someplace else.”

Would you be happy to pay an additional price to dine in air-conditioned rooms?
