Netflix is well known for its content throughout the world including Malaysia. However, recently the brand has amusing us especially when they labelled the rambutan as an “alien” fruit! *ROFL*
Well, Malaysia has finally been featured in a Netflix series again. And this got Malaysian netizens cracking up.
Which show you might ask?
Well, it is the series called “The Spy” which is about the Israeli clerk-turned-secret-agent Eli Cohen which happened in the 1960s. The show is directed by Israeli director Gideon Raff and the main actor is the ever so popular Sacha Baron Cohen.
The 10 cent coin was spotted by eagle-eyed Facebook user Errol Fung who explained that the coin was used by the main character in the series to purchase a Syrian newspaper. As the show takes place in 1962, it is highly unlikely for the 10 cent coin to be there as it was the newer version of the coin.
Many netizens were amused because Netflix used our 10 cent coin as an ‘old’ coin in the 1960s!
Another interesting point is that Malaysia and Israel have never had any relationship with each other and it is quite amazing to have the Malaysian 10 cent coin on an Israeli production set. This might be because the company behind the production is French and some of the crew members might be from Malaysia. But don’t quote us on that yet!
If you are interested to see the 10 cent coin in the show, just watch “The Spy” episode three of season one at the 25th minute when the main character drops a few coins on a plate because he wants to buy the local Syrian newspaper.
The series has received great reviews from critics and surely you will enjoy the series as well. But the best part is to know that a small part of Malaysia is visible in it.
