Streaming giant Netflix, will be cancelling accounts of those who have watched nothing for more than a year but are still paying the subscription fees. According to Netflix, as reported by BBC, hundreds of thousands of their users fall into that category.
This initiative will ensure that forgetful customers can save their money if they don’t really watch anything on Netflix. As payment details are required when they sign up, customers will be charged even if they don’t watching anything. Hence why Netflix has decided to do this.
The company will be sending out notifications for those who fall in this category, to confirm if they want to continue with their subscription and if they don’t respond, their account will be cancelled. Product Innovation chief, Eddy Wu said,
“You know that sinking feeling when you realise you signed up for something but haven’t used it in ages? At Netflix, the last thing we want is people paying for something they’re not using.”
Although the accounts will be cancelled, Netflix will still keep their viewing data so if the user decides to re-subscribe, they can access their preferences again.
So, are you part of the category of those who sign up for something but never use the services available? You might want to consider cancelling those subscriptions as you can save quite a bit by doing so! 🙂
