It has been about less than week since the goods and services tax (GST) has been reduced to 0 per cent, and the prices of almost everything has subsequently gone down. Yay! Malaysians have been overjoyed at this price drop, but there are some who have noticed that certain places have still not changed the pricing on their items. In fact, like in this case, they have increased it.
A restaurant outlet in Sunway had reportedly increased the prices of their food, according to a customer who visited the restaurant recently. He shared with WORLD OF BUZZ that he had immediately left when he saw that some of the items on the À la carte menu had substantially hiked.
“I walked out after seeing the unnecessary price increase,” he said.
Some of the menu items had their prices hiked from RM9.90 to RM 12.35. Others rose from RM10.90 to RM13.39, and RM13.90 to RM15.46.

It looks like this isn’t the first customer who have noticed the price hikes too as there have also been complaints on Facebook where another customer accused the restaurant’s staff for lying about the price increase, and added that the restaurant was openly scamming customers who weren’t regulars.

Just a few days ago, a restaurant in Bangsar was under fire as one customer noticed the increase in pricing on their food and drinks. Customers who ate there reported the issue to The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) and produced receipts as proof.
KPDNKK came over to the restaurant and confirmed there there was a price increase despite the removal of GST. They then asked the restaurant to explain their price hikes with the appropriate documentation as proof.
The operations management later added that since the removal of GST, they were still in the process of updating their system and that there was an error in the payment system, causing the price difference.
