It’s no secret that Malaysia is a multicultural country. We’ve all grown up eating nasi lemak for breakfast, banana leaf rice for lunch and char kuey teow for dinner.

Unfortunately, some Malaysians still can’t seem to have a respective outlook towards living with different religions.

Mohd Amirul Shah and Iskandar Hussin took to his Facebook page to showcase Malaysians insulting the Minister of Religious Affairs of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri during the daily press conferences.

He wrote, “I feel sorry to see this, as these people stay in Malaysia and was born in Malaysia. We live among Malays, Chinese, Indians and others. We learn each other’s cultures. We eat nasi lemak, yong tau foo and banana leaf.

“We celebrate Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali. It’s been more than 60 years, we should already understand each other’s cultures, religions and races.”

Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli is wearing a type of serban during the conference, a traditional, religious head piece that’s considerably common in Malaysia, though the Malaysians commenting during his speech said things like, ‘Santa’s hat’ and ‘Is Christmas here yet’ due to the physical appearance of the hat.

“But when the Minister of Religious Affairs, who is an ex-Mufti member presented live on TV, some placed indecent remarks publicly. The content he brought had nothing to do with other religions. He was just sharing some information regarding the Covid-19 virus and how Muslims should work around the situation,” Amirul went on to explain.

One comment even said, “There are too many of them, just let them die.”

Many Malaysians of different races took to the comments section to share their opinions on the matter.

It is completely fair to not understand everything about all the religions in Malaysia, but there’s always ways to ask respectfully for the sake of gaining a better understanding. After all, when asked nicely, who wouldn’t help to explain whats going on, right?

We genuinely hope that as Malaysians, we can stand united as one nation, especially now that we have bigger fish to fry like the Covid-19 virus. Let’s not let a couple of bad eggs ruin our community.

What do you think about this? Let us know in the comment section!
