If signing up for a yearly membership with a gym irks you because you’re not a fan of long-term commitment, chances are you’ve heard of KFit – which stands for Keep Fit – and its all-access fitness passport concept that allows users to visit multiple gyms and studios via a monthly fee that’s more affordable sans any contract! Think fixed fee for a fitness-style buffet!

The fitness platform, which launched in Kuala Lumpur in May 2015, allows users to reserve classes at several partner studios in the city – online or from the mobile app. To date, there are over 100,000 active KFit subscribers!

However, it looks like KFit may have some competition (a healthy one, no less) in the near future as a new fitness and lifestyle platform with a similar business model called GuavaPass has recently launched in KL as of 4th October, according to Vulcan Post.

The Singapore-based start-up mirrors the same all-access pass concept that KFit has, though after looking through their website and packages, we found a few key differences that sets it apart from its competitor.

1. It has a wider range of monthly combo plans

Compared to KFit, which only offers a fixed monthly fee of RM139 – or RM99 for existing users before the price change – for 10 classes (which also used to be unlimited), GuavaPass has a few packages to cater to your fitness goals. Ranging from RM89 to RM389, here are the 5 monthly combo packages it offers:

  • RM99 (promo price: RM49) for 3 classes
  • RM139 (promo price: RM99) for 5 classes
  • RM239 (promo price: RM149) for 10 classes
  • RM339 (promo price: RM299) for unlimited classes (3-month commitment)
  • RM389 (promo price: RM349) for unlimited classes (commitment-free)

Currently, these prices are marked down to as low as RM49 as an opening promo for the first 3 months, so if you wanna give it a go, now’s probably the best time to get a bang for your buck!

2. It boasts a premium variety of studios

Dubbed “the best in premium fitness classes”, they currently have an elite list of 15 studio and gym partners including FireStation Fit, F45 Training, KOA Fitness, HIIT2fit, Be Urban Wellness, Organica Studios, Fuel Athletics, and more. See the full list here.

Now we know why some of these studios that were previously listed in KFit are no longer available. :O

Hence, you’ll get to enjoy a variety activities such as crossfit, kickboxing, yoga, pilates, HIIT, circuit training and a whole lot more!

Diane Chia, the General Manager of GuavaPass KL said, “We have always made it a point to work with only the best of the best fitness studios.”

“That way our members know that when they sign up with GuavaPass, they’re having a curated and premium fitness experience; there’s no wasted time trying out studios or classes with poor facilities or less than inspiring instructors. We’ve done the work for them of trying each studio and only working with the best,” she explained.

3. It allows unlimited classes and more visits per studio

With GuavaPass, if you sign up for one of their unlimited plans, you can enjoy unlimited classes with a cap of 4 visits per studio in a single month. We did the math, and this means that if you’re gung-ho enough, you could attend up to 60 classes per month!

At KFit however, each studio has a fixed number of visits that’s allowed with each monthly cycle, after which you’d either have to top up a small fee to attend additional classes (provided the studio permits this on the app) or wait for the monthly pass to renew in order to re-visit your favourite studio.

Here’s another bonus at GuavaPass: “All Unlimited GuavaPass memberships can be used in all cities we are live in for no additional cost,” Diane said.

So you can even attend classes in 11 cities across Asia and the Middle East including Bangkok, Manila, Hong Kong, Dubai and more!

4. Coming soon: GuavaPerks

A full GuavaPass experience wouldn’t be complete without its GuavaPerks programme, which is still inactive for Malaysian members at the moment.

If you’re wondering what to expect, here’s what Diane shared: “Some GuavaPerks users in KL can look forward to include PurelyB, Raisin the Roof, Kind Kones, Rawsome and Amazin’ Graze.”

One thing we noticed KFit has that GuavaPass lacks is the user-generated rating and feedback system, which helps give you an idea of the experience before you reserve a class. However, since GuavaPass has curated an elite list of fitness classes, we reckon they’ve filtered out the best of the best for its members.
