Over the past week, there has been a buzz over how a non-Muslim woman in Kelantan was given a compound for wearing shorts that end at the upper-thigh-level.
In the latest update, it is said that the compound issued by MPKB has been cancelled after a discussion with Dato’ Mohd Fadzli bin Mohd Kenali the Director-General of the Local Government Department.
According to Harian Metro, Minister of Housing and Local Government of Malaysia, Nga Kor Ming says:
“This case is already resolved. After a discussion between the DG of the Local Government Department and local authorities, they have agreed to cancel the compound as it is unreasonable.”
Other than that, the minister added that local authorities need to understand the contents and spirit of the Constitution in enforcing the law.
“Our beloved Malaysia is a multi racial, cultural and religion country. This is why we need to respect each other.”
“We need to respect Muslims and non-Muslims as well, this is written in the Constitution.”
Hence, he urged all local authorities to not be overzealous when enforcing the law to the point that it goes against the Constitution, reports Astro Awani. The minister hopes that similar incidents will not happen again.
