Late last month, the KL High Court had squashed a book ban order against the book ‘Gay is OK! A Christian Perspective’. This was following the actions of the Home Minister to ban the book.

The High Court’s decision came from the fact that the Home Minister’s party could not prove that the book had caused any disturbances of peace despite it being published for about 7 years now.

“He (the Home Minister) needs to keep in mind that the disputed book is related to the question that arises regarding homosexuality from the point of view of Christianity,”

After reading the book and evaluating it from an objective point of view, this court is of the view that the book contain the views of the author as a Christian. True or not, referring to the author’s views, the book should be limited to that religion only even though there are some subjective views, evaluations and perceptions from the author,” said Judge Datuk Noorin Badaruddin, who made the decision.

Now, a total of 4 non-governmental organisations (NGOs), including Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) Negeri Sembilan, have lodged a police report regarding the publication of the book.

The other NGOs involved are Pertubuhan Al Ehsan Negeri Sembilan, Pertubuhan Kebajikan and Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Pekida) Negeri Sembilan.

They were led by the Sikamat State Assembly (DUN) Fighters Coordinator, Datuk Mohammad Hafiz Baharuddin, who lodged the report to fiercely reject the publication out of fear that it could distort the morals of society in Malaysia.

“This thing (Gay is OK!) doesn’t make sense and it is like a virus that needs to be eliminated before it spreads,”

“As a representative of Islamic NGOs, I am called to take this responsibility to prevent sentiments that threaten the faith and morals of the descendants of Malaysians,” he said.

He hopes that action will be taken against the publishers as well as to prevent the publication of the book.
