Ever since Pakatan Harapan took over as the ruling government, a lot of changes have been implemented, with some of the old government’s initiatives either being put on hold or scrapped altogether.
One of the things our new government immediately started getting rid of was the “1Malaysia” slogan in official government buildings. Now, it looks like this effort will also be extended to other areas!
According to Free Malaysia Today, housing projects bearing the name “1Malaysia” will be re-named, including the affordable housing scheme, Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA).
“The re-branding of these projects and future new projects are currently being addressed by the PH government,” stated Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.
“So, God-willing, we will improve, beautify and cheer up this nightmare for the people. Once it is done, we can take the next course of action.”
She added that the “1Malaysia” tagline, originally developed under former Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak’s administration in 2009, became somewhat of a “nightmare” for Malaysians due to its aggressive promotion throughout the entire country.
Aside from the re-branding, Zuraida also stated that the government intends to provide affordable homes for the bottom 40 percent (B40) of households with monthly incomes that fall below RM3,900. Currently, the biggest issue in carrying out this plan is acquiring land that’s in a convenient location for these houses.
“We don’t want land which is located in isolated areas or too far away from civilisation. So we hope the respective state governments would look into this and work with us.”
According to FMT’s report, only 8,475 of households out of the promised 500,000 PR1MA households were built under the previous Barisan Nasional government.
Well, we’re looking forward to seeing the new names of these government housing projects!
