With the decision to abolish free tolls during festive seasons revoked, Fahmi Fadzil later clarified that the decision has yet to be finalised. PAS, on the other hand, weighed in on the matter.

In a statement this morning (January 24), PAS Information Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari pointed out the empty promises that the government has made.

“The Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi recently announced the abolishment of free tolls during festive seasons.”

“The government promised to give benefits to the people through the abolishment of tolls in the past.”

Before Pakatan Harapan assumed the role of the government in 2018, one of its manifestos was to abolish the tolls in Malaysia entirely.

Fadhli then mentioned Fahmi Fadzil’s statement, in which the latter clarified that the decision to abolish free tolls has yet to be made. The Information Chief of PAS couldn’t help but wonder if this was the government’s “U-turn” following the public’s reaction towards the abolishment of free festive season tolls.

To Fahdli, such an inconsistency shouldn’t have taken place.

“This only shows the flaws in the leadership and the miscommunication between ministers.”

“The government should’ve been consistent and stern in making decisions.”

“No more U-turning, please”

Fadhli also highlighted that the government should keep its promises and prioritise the people because the last thing that the public needs is “empty promises.”

“If you constantly break your promises, the people will feel betrayed and lose trust in a leadership that should’ve protected them.”

Earlier, Fahmi Fadzil said the ministers were waiting for PMX’s return from Switzerland to discuss the matter, and the decision for free festive season tolls is expected to be made today (January 24) after the Cabinet meeting.

Fadhli then reminded the government to consider the welfare of the people and make a decision that would be in favour of them.

“Discuss wisely. Think about the welfare of the people.”

What do you think of PAS’ take on this?
